Things to See: Old City Walls

In the past, Chiang Mai was a flourishing country side city with a wall and a moat around the city. Today, the moat still remains, and most of the Old City Wall is still there. The four corners of the wall are intact, and a few of the gates are now landmarks that the locals and foreigners use to orientate themselves.

The most famous of all the gates is Pratoo Tha Phae or commonly known as Tha Phae Gate among the foreigners. Two other significant gates are Pratoo Chiang Puak and Pratoo Chiang Mai.
